set out roles and responsibilities for public health investigation and enforcement
highlight specific considerations for investigation of potential sources of infection in healthcare, travel and community settings, both for single cases and clusters/outbreaks
provide a framework for a standardised approach to an investigation which can be adapted to the wide range of individual scenarios typically found in public health incident
