Details
Section 21 of the Environment Act 2021 requires the Defra Secretary of State to report to UK Parliament on significant developments in international environmental protection legislation every 2 years.
The first report was published in April 2025, and the second iteration of the report was published in July 2026.
The reports highlight significant international environmental and climate developments. Defra works closely with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) for climate developments and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in the preparation of the reports.
The reports highlight developments we consider to be impactful, pioneering, ambitious, innovative or otherwise significant, many of which could help inform our own policy thinking and ambitions on environment and climate protection.
