Interministerial Group for Net Zero, Energy and Climate Change Communiqué: 30 November 2020

The Net Zero, Energy and Climate Change Interministerial Group met on 30 November 2020. The meeting was chaired by the Minister for Business, Energy and Clean Growth (BEIS), Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP.

What was discussed

The Group discussed the upcoming Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy and the role industrial clusters (for example the South Wales Cluster) and wider behaviour change could play. The Group also looked ahead to upcoming Committee on Climate Change advice on the UK’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), as well as the possible implications for this on UK carbon budgets.

The Group also acknowledged priorities for the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and the cooperation in delivering the legislation to support a future scheme.
