Details

This guidance sets out the legal duty on police forces in England and Wales to notify a child’s educational setting, such as their school or college, where they have attended a domestic abuse incident in that child’s home.

This includes all children connected to the household, regardless of whether they were present at the time of the incident.

This duty is known as the Operation Encompass scheme.

The guidance includes:

  • the legislative requirements that apply to police forces in England and Wales
  • how to make Operation Encompass notifications, including recommended practice
  • a toolkit of resources

This guidance is for policing but should also be read by educational establishments and local authorities.
