Details

This independent review of energy supplier evidence on the impacts of smart metering on domestic energy consumption was completed by the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT).

We appointed BIT to:

  1. Synthesise evidence from energy suppliers about the impact of smart meters on household energy use and conduct a formal meta-analysis if the evidence was compatible with this approach.
  2. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of this evidence, providing recommendations for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on how it can be interpreted.
