Ian Bright, on behalf of Staverton Hydro Community Benefit Society Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for 3 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract (take) water from the River Dart at National Grid Reference SX 78967 63862 to transfer it to Staverton Leat at NGR SX 78972 63862 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 21,600 cubic metres an hour

  • 518,400 cubic metres a day

  • 114,048,000 cubic metres a year

  • at a maximum instantaneous rate of 6,000 litres per second

Between 1st April and 31st March inclusive in each year.

The application for a transfer licence to abstract water will be used for power production (hydro-electric power) and for amenity flow to Staverton Leat.

Ian Bright, on behalf of Staverton Hydro Community Benefit Society Limited has also applied for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Dart at NGR SX 78790 63859. By means of altering the crest height of the existing weir to 7.6 metres above ordnance datum and installing a new Larinier technical fish pass water will be impounded to facilitate the abstraction into the leat and maintain the hands off flow over the weir.

Ian Bright, on behalf of Staverton Hydro Community Benefit Society Limited has also applied for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of Staverton Leat at NGR SX 79402 63660. By installing an Archimedes screw turbine water will be impounded for power production.
