Hydrogen to power: costs and barriers

Details

DESNZ commissioned Baringa to review and assess the technical readiness, cost implications, and deployment barriers for hydrogen-based power generation technologies in the UK. The report examines various plant archetypes including turbines, internal combustion engines, and electrochemical systems.

It covers a range of topics, including:

  • cost of retrofitting or repowering existing unabated gas plants to 100% hydrogen capability
  • cost of blending hydrogen into an existing unabated gas plant
  • barriers to deployment and scale-up
  • evolution of costs over time as the technology matures
