Funding: £40,000

Summary of project: “United for Hong Kong” is an initiative delivered in the North-West by The Growth Company – A non-for-profit social enterprise based in Manchester.

The initiative allows North-West based employers to post job vacancies on our website job board free of charge (some restrictions on roles apply). This will create a searchable list of job opportunities which will specifically be advertised to the Hong Kong BN(O) community in the North-West. The website can be translated into Cantonese and contains a directory of different support services in the North-West as well as Right to Work information and answers to helpful FAQs.

Through the initiative – website visitors will be able to directly contact a Cantonese speaking Support Worker through a dedicated telephone/e-mail service. This will allow people to be supported with job applications, get advice about CVs or interviews, and help with general queries related to the job market in the North-West.

Organisation: Investing in People and Culture (IPC)
Funding: £39,854

Summary of project: According to the UN, “Housing is the basis of stability and security for an individual or family”. For recently arriving Hong Kongers in the UK, a good experience with housing provides the foundation for successful settlement.

It will do this primarily through:

  • an online housing information and support hub with community-driven resources
  • coffee mornings and dim sum to connect Hongkongers with housing support officers, landlords, investors, and health & safety experts
  • volunteering days providing hands-on experience to develop knowledge and skills and to extend links into local communities
