Details

On 3 August 2015 the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), submitted an application to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) for a marine licence to undertake navigational maintenance dredging in and adjacent to Her Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport, Plymouth.

The application includes disposal of the dredged material at the Rame Head South disposal site during two dredge and disposal campaigns, taking place over a maximum fourteen month period.

The MMO has now determined the application and a summary of all information relating to the determination can be found in the attached decision report. A copy of the licence and supporting assessments has also been attached for reference. The marine licence for the maintenance dredge at HMNB Devonport allows DIO to complete two maintenance dredge campaigns of the dockyard’s critical areas, in Quarter 1 of each year, between now and March 2017. The dredge is required in order to maintain the operational capacity of the Naval Base.

The MMO is currently leading a project to look for the best disposal at sea option for the South West. This project aims to identify the optimal site for disposal activities and is estimated for completion by the end of 2016.
