This systematic evidence summary (search up to 1 May 2026) identified and summarised evidence on the incubation and infectious period, asymptomatic or presymptomatic transmission and transmission route in human-to-human transmission of hantavirus infection.

Seventeen studies were included in this systematic evidence summary with human-to-human transmission only being reported for Andes virus.

Updated to clarify that human-to-human transmission has only been reported for Andes virus, to refer to Andes virus as a species, and to revise the main messages in line with updated study counts and incubation period ranges. Additional changes include: reclassification of one study to the serial interval section, clarification of table titles and terminology, expanded limitations, and confirmation that no direct evidence was identified on the human infectious period.
