How to register to record Driver CPC periodic training you provide

Updated 7 March 2024

1. Introduction

When you run a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training centre, you have to record information about course attendees and their periodic training.

The service to record training is run by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

To use the service for the first time, you have to register and give some information. This guide explains what’s involved.

2. Register

The process you need to follow depends on whether your organisation is already registered with a Government Gateway account.

2.1 If you already have a Government Gateway account

  1. DVSA will write to you with a unique code to register. The code will be in the format of CPCER123456.

  2. Sign in to the Government Gateway with your user ID and password.

  3. You will also be asked to enter other information about your training centre which is included on your training centre approval letter.

2.2 If you do not have a Government Gateway account

  1. DVSA will write to you with a unique code to register. The code will be in the format of CPCER123456.

  2. Register for a Government Gateway account for your organisation.

  3. You will also be asked to enter other information about your training centre which is included on your training centre approval letter.

  4. Choose a password. You need to use this every time you sign in to the Government Gateway.

  5. Enter your email address. If you forget your password, it can be reset and sent to your email address.

  6. Enter a ‘recovery word’ to help you if you need to reset your password.

  7. Click Submit.

Once you have successfully completed the registration process your User ID will be displayed on the confirmation screen, (it will be in the format:1234 5678 5687).

Make a note of it, you will need it every time you log into the Government Gateway.

3. Access CPC service

Enter the information from the letter you received from DVSA and the approval letter you received from JAUPT.

You can add a reminder word/phrase in the Reference name field.

Clicking Next will display confirmation of your enrolment, please be aware of the following:

  • you can use your user ID immediately after you have completed the registration process
  • you should not give anyone access to your user ID or password
  • keep your password and user ID secure

4. Add users

You can register additional staff to use the Driver CPC periodic training database so that they do not need to go through the Government Gateway registration process.

To add another user, log in to Government Gateway and from the options on the screen click on Manage your Government Gateway group profiles.

Click on Add a member and follow the on-screen instructions. These are very similar to those for when you first registered. When you get to the confirmation email, make a note of, or print the user ID and password for the user. They will need these details to use the system.

5. Manage your additional users

The Manage your Government Gateway group profiles screen will also allow you to add new members of staff when they join the centre, or remove access for staff when they leave.

It’s important that you ensure you have got robust systems in place to protect access and passwords.
