The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Ark Data Centres Limited

Regulated facility type

The site is a data centre which consists of a Schedule 1 Part A(1) 1.1(a) activity under the Environmental Permitting Regulations for the burning of any fuel in an appliance with a rated thermal input of 50 or more megawatts (MW).

The existing permit authorises 69 diesel fuelled standby generators, with an aggregated total combustion capacity of approximately 260MWth. This variation is to authorise additional combustion plant, with the operation of 84 emergency standby generators with a total thermal input of approximately 372.61MWth. The proposal includes 18 new standby generators with the removal of 3 standby generators.
