GP Strategies Assessment Services Limited (GPSAS) surrenders Ofqual recognition

Published 31 January 2024

Applies to England

GP Strategies Assessment Services Limited (GPSAS) has surrendered its status as an Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation.

GPSAS informed Ofqual in September 2023 of its intention to surrender recognition. GPSAS has no outstanding apprentices for its regulated provision.  When awarding organisations are considering surrendering their recognition, we stand ready to discuss the options for proceeding while ensuring apprentices are protected.

On 1 November 2023 Ofqual imposed Special Conditions, Special Conditions on GP Strategies Training Ltd, known as GP Strategies Assessment Services Limited “GPSAS” - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk), to require GPSAS to:

  • take all reasonable steps to protect the interests of apprentices in relation to its qualifications
  • comply with a written withdrawal plan, which must specify how the interests of apprentices will be protected
  • provide clear and accurate information about the withdrawal to apprentices, training providers, and purchasers of qualifications who are likely to be affected by the withdrawal

Ofqual imposed these Special Conditions in order to monitor the surrender and protect the interests of existing and potential apprentices.

The surrender took effect as of 31 January 2024. GPSAS complied with the Special Conditions, and they ended on the final surrender date. From this date, no qualifications offered by GPSAS are regulated by Ofqual.

GPSAS previously had 8 regulated qualifications and issued 2,420 certificates in the last academic year. GPSAS has confirmed to Ofqual that there had been no adverse effect on any apprentices as a result of this surrender.

Following this Surrender of Recognition, if any GPSAS apprentices have any queries they should contact their training provider.

A full list of currently recognised awarding organisations and regulated qualifications can be found on the Register of Regulated Qualifications.
