Georgia Gould, Minister for School Standards, outlines the department’s decision on the arrangements for GCSE maths, physics and combined science.
Students taking qualifications in these subjects in 2025, 2026 and 2027 will not need to memorise formulae and equations. They will continue to be provided with these in their assessments.
The minister asks Ofqual to consider appropriate arrangements to maintain this support to students for the lifetime of the current GCSE specifications.
Ofqual has replied to the minister. It has confirmed the decision to consult on the need for exam boards to continue providing formulae and equation sheets, as in previous years.
Ofqual’s consultation closes on 23 March 2026 at 11.45pm.
