This report presents 3 contrasting versions of the future of the UK’s system of cities:
- ‘major cities empowerment’ - where major cities other than London experience the highest population growth
- ‘London-centric’ - where London and the wider South East region experience the highest population growth
- ‘smaller cities focus’ - where smaller cities absorb the highest proportion of population growth
These scenarios can be used by national and local decision-makers to explore ‘what-if’ questions about the future.
The report was commissioned as part of the Foresight future of cities project.
