We have identified 3 successful recipients of grant awards under the Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF):

  • £30.05 million has been awarded to Holtec Britain Ltd for a 2-Step Generic Design Assessment (GDA) and constructability and safety case assessments
  • £33.6 million has been awarded to GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy for 2-Step GDA in addition to Enterprise Readiness activities such as an Advanced Manufacturing Plan
  • £3.34 million has been awarded to Cavendish Nuclear for constructability and modularisation studies, fuel management and assessment of the domestic manufacturing and supply chain

The combined total of the grant awards is up to £66.9 million. This funding will accelerate advanced nuclear business development in the UK and support advanced nuclear designs to enter UK regulation. This funding also represents the first the UK government has awarded to an advanced modular reactor technology for post-R&D commercialisation and business development activities.

All shortlisted applications exceeded the quality thresholds across all 4 assessment criteria. Holtec Britain Ltd, GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy LLC and Cavendish Nuclear have successfully completed the department’s due diligence and governance approvals processes to be awarded funding.
