We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:
How many fraud reports relating to online shopping and auctions has Action Fraud/ the National Fraud Authority received in each year (November 2010-2011 for example); dating back until 2007-08.
We released the following information on 29 November 2012.
Action Fraud has been operational since late 2009 and the last two years of reporting of online shopping and auctions fraud is provided.
Over the last year (November 2011 to October 2012) Action Fraud received 16,355 reports of online shopping and auction fraud. For the previous year (November 2010 to October 2011) 11,961 reports. These figures cover reporting from across the UK. The change in reporting numbers between the two periods reflect the increased use of the Action Fraud service across all sectors, individuals and by police and are not necessarily indicative of any trend.
