Our response
We have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act). We regret that we are unable to respond to your request because it exceeds the cost limit set out by the Act. Section 12 of the Act makes provision for public authorities to refuse requests for information where the cost of dealing with them would exceed the appropriate limit, which for central government is set at £600. This represents the estimated cost of one person spending 3.5 working days in determining whether the department holds the information, locating, retrieving and extracting the information.
We consider your request would be over the statutory limit because at presently worded, the request is too broad as it asks the department to check each individual contract and supplier listed.
In order that you can submit a request that does not breach the cost limit set, you may like to significantly reduce the amount of suppliers/external stakeholders you would like us to contact in any future requests (i.e. 2 or 3).
Depending on the information you wish to receive you may like to consider refining your request using the above mentioned suggestion.
If you would like further information regarding the cost limit and how it is applied please refer to the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.
