Additional drug and alcohol treatment funding allocations: 2023 to 2024 and 2024 to 2025

Published 16 February 2023

Applies to England

Introduction

Local authorities (upper tier and unitary) are responsible for commissioning drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services as part of their public health responsibilities.

These additional drug and alcohol funding allocations for 2023 to 2024 build on investment made in the funding allocations for 2022 to 2023.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is providing £154.3 million in additional grants to improve services in line with the ambitions of the government’s drug strategy, and the recommendations from Dame Carol Black’s independent review.

In 2024 to 2025, DHSC plans to provide a further £266.7 million.

Local authorities and their partners have been asked to provide plans to improve their treatment and recovery systems. These plans will be agreed with the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities over the coming months.

The table below shows local authority funding allocations for 2023 to 2024 and indicative allocations for 2024 to 2025.
