Details of the application

Environment Agency has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006).

The application is for a licence to impound Golden Brook at West Park, Long Eaton, Nottingham at National Grid Reference SK 48809 33434.

The proposal is to replace an existing single penstock flood defence impoundment structure with a new upgraded structure. As a result of this upgrade there will be no changes to the water levels or flows in the watercourse.

Further details of the proposal are: works will involve construction of an earth and concrete embankment not exceeding 30.07 metres above ordnance datum in height complete with a flood spillway and two culverts to replace the existing structure. The culverts will be controlled by two electronically operated penstocks and a third manual penstock behind these. The structure will not hold back water during normal flows but during high flows it is designed to restrict downstream flow to reduce the risk of flooding. The structure will hold back a maximum volume of 345,000 cubic metres of water.
