The Environment Agency is applying to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The application is for a new licence to permit the transfer of water from the River Asker to the flood alleviation bypass channel at Jessopp Avenue, Bridport, Dorset at National Grid Reference (NGR) SY 47359 93036.

The quantity of water to be transferred will be at a maximum rate of:

  • 5,433 litres per second
  • 19,559 cubic metres per hour
  • 469,400 cubic metres per day
  • 171,330,673 cubic metres per year

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

Further details of the proposal are:

  • This is an existing transfer activity to which no changes are proposed
  • All water abstracted will be returned to the main channel of the River Asker at NGR SY 47207 92948, 185 metres from the point of abstraction.
