Details

The questionnaire is used for the household interview and the physical survey form is used by surveyors to record the physical condition of homes.

The 2020 to 2021 English Housing Survey data were collected during the COVID-19 pandemic which necessitated a change in the established survey mode. Face-to-face interviews were replaced with telephone interviews and internal inspections of properties were replaced with external inspections and linking administrative data sources.

The wording of some of the household interview questions have been adapted to be asked on the telephone and the physical survey was unable to collect some data items at all, e.g. information on the condition of the homes that relies on a surveyor’s assessment of the inside of a home. The data items that the surveyor was able to collect are highlighted in green and yellow on the physical survey form.
