Details
On 25 May 2022, Natural England submitted a report to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs setting out changes to the proposed route of the England Coast Path in Essex from Mersea Outdoors to Coopers Beach Holiday Park. This is part of the Mersea Island stretch.

The opportunity to comment closed at midnight on Wednesday 20 July 2022. You can no longer make a representation or objection on proposals.
Objections were passed to an independent planning inspector who made a recommendation to the Secretary of State about each one.
The Secretary of State considered all representations and objections before making a decision about Natural England’s proposals.
Outcome
On 16 July 2024, the Secretary of State announced their decision to approve this report, which modifies the original proposals.
On 28 January 2026, the Mersea Island stretch of the KCIIIECP opened to the public.
The route is available to view on the National Trails website.
