  • local-authority-maintained schools
  • pupil referral units
  • non-maintained special schools

This guidance explains the rules about employing overseas-trained teachers to teach in schools in England.

Overseas-trained teachers are people who have qualified as teachers in a country outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

Pupil referral units provide education for vulnerable children unable to attend a mainstream school.
