1. Information: 2017 to 2018 high needs place change notification process - outcomes

We’ve published the outcomes from the 2017 to 2018 place change notification process. This presents decisions for all institutions for which local authorities submitted a return to change high needs place numbers.

The individual outcomes have been determined in line with the principles set out in the ‘high needs place change notification: technical note 2017 to 2018’ document. This will inform the funded place numbers for academic year 2017 to 2018 in further education colleges, commercial and charitable providers and academies.

If an institution is not listed in the workbook, this means that no local authority change request was submitted for that institution. For these institutions the published 2016 to 2017 place numbers will be used as the basis of the 2017 to 2018 allocation.

Enquiries about the outcomes of the place change notification process may be submitted via the EFA enquiry form no later than Tuesday 14 February 2017. Institutions who have an exceptional place funding shortfall in comparison to their in-year enrolment of students, which threatens the viability of their provision, may consider submitting an enquiry about their place numbers to EFA. Institutions should first check proposed arrangements with their local authority before submitting a query. Revisions to the published outcomes will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Requests from local authorities for further changes will not be considered.

2. Information: Condition Data Collection programme

EFA Condition Data Collection (CDC) programme has now begun. We have written introduction letters to responsible bodies and the first 40 schools to be visited as part of the programme. EFA has contracted surveying organisations to visit sites and collect data. The surveying organisations will contact the first 40 schools to schedule CDC visits over the next few weeks.

Department for Education and EFA will use CDC information to help inform future condition funding allocations. It will also help us to understand more fully the nature, use and management of the education estate.

The surveying organisation will contact schools at least 35 days prior to their planned visit date. Before the surveyor visit, we will ask schools to complete an online CDC school questionnaire.

You can find further information and guidance on the Condition Data Collection programme page on GOV.UK.
