Release

The EFA uses IT services provided by 2 main suppliers: the Department for Education and the Skills Funding Agency (SFA). As the EFA is an executive agency of the Department for Education, your questions about IT systems and services have been answered using information provided by the department.

  1. On 7 January 2013, the EFA employed 673 people (headcount), providing the equivalent of 654.47 full-time staff.
  2. The EFA was formed on 1 April 2012, and was therefore not in operation during the financial year 2011 to 2012.
  3. The headquarters address of the EFA is 53-55 Butts Park Road, Earlsdon, Coventry, CV1 3BH.
  4. The chief executive and accounting officer of the EFA is Peter Lauener.
  5. The EFA does not have an IT department.
    • Infrastructure: services are provided by the Department for Education and the SFA.
    • Desktops/laptops/thin clients: desktops, laptops and thin clients are provided by the Department for Education and the SFA.
    • Systems development/applications management: systems development and applications management services are provided by the department and the SFA.
  6. There are 103 desktop machines in the EFA, which are provided by the SFA. The EFA shares several offices with the Department for Education and other departmental executive agencies and organisations. Where these offices are shared, hot desks are often used and it is not possible to distinguish desktop allocation by customer. The EFA does have some sites where it has exclusive use of the building. In these sites there are 10 PCs.
  7. There are 522 laptops in use in the EFA. 140 of these are provided by the SFA, and 382 provided by the department.
  8. The EFA shares several offices with the Department for Education and other departmental executive agencies and organisations. Where these offices are shared, hot desks are often used and it is not possible to distinguish thin client allocation by customer. The EFA does have some sites where it has exclusive use of the building. In these sites there are 195 thin clients.
  9. The standard operating system used by the department is Windows Server 2008 R2. The *[SFA]: Skills Funding Agency may be able to supply more information on the servers it provides.
  10. This level of detail for the EFA cannot be provided by the department, as many services are shared. As an example, the departmental Microsoft exchange servers are used to provide email services for the entire department and all of the executive agencies, not just the EFA. The department currently has 284 physical servers, some of which will provide services consumed by EFA. The SFA may be able to supply information on servers that support specific EFA business applications.
  11. This level of detail for the EFA cannot be provided by the department, as many services are shared with the department and executive agencies. The department currently has 169 virtual servers, some of which will provide services consumed by EFA. The SFA may be able to supply information on servers that support specific EFA business applications.
  12. The EFA does not have an IT department.
