UK DUS testing: agricultural and vegetable list

There are 3 test centres that do the DUS testing of agricultural and vegetable varieties in the UK.

Label your seed sample as a DUS seed sample when you send it to the test centre. You must include your:

  • species name
  • breeders reference

If you know them, you should also include your:

  • variety name
  • application for protection (AFP) number

1. Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) DUS testing capability

AFBI does UK DUS variety testing for:

  • festulolium
  • hybrid ryegrass
  • Italian ryegrass
  • perennial ryegrass
  • white clover

2. National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB) DUS testing capability

NIAB does UK DUS variety testing for:

  • barley
  • field bean
  • fodder kale
  • oat
  • small naked oat
  • sugar beet
  • wheat
  • winter oilseed rape, also known as swede rape

3. Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture (SASA) DUS testing capability

SASA does UK DUS testing for:

  • field pea
  • potato
  • swede
  • turnip rape
  • vegetable peas
