Published 14 December 2018
Applies to England
Details of the applications
Duddington Estates Limited have applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006).
The first application is for a licence to abstract water from the River Welland at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 98735 00811 to transfer it to the existing mill leat without intervening use. All of the water abstracted will be used for hydropower generation using a single waterwheel sited within the existing wheel pit in the mill. All of the water will be discharged back into the River Welland at NGR SK 98603 00935. The application is to abstract water at a maximum rate of 921 litres per second.
The application seeks to allow abstraction to take place all year subject to a hands-off flow condition to ensure that a minimum flow is maintained within the river and the existing fish pass at all times.
Duddington Estates Limited have also applied for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Welland by impounding the existing leat to facilitate the installation of the waterwheel at NGR SK 98612 00930.
