Dstl's Crown copyright information
Published 11 April 2025
Policy for re-use of information
The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) follows the National Archives’ Re-use of public sector information policy.
We have also adopted the Open Government Licence (OGL) v3.0 for licensing Dstl Crown copyright material cleared for use or re-use.
Charging policy
Documents supplied by Dstl as part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Public Task will be available for re-use unless they are excluded by virtue of exemptions in the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015.
If the requested material is within MOD’s public task, there’s usually no fee for re-use.
If the requested material is fully outside MOD’s public task, there will be additional charges.
There is no standard fee because of the varying nature of the material available for re-use, so please contact CrownCopyrightLicensing@dstl.gov.uk for specific charge details.
Complaints procedure
If you are unhappy with the service you have received regarding licensing of Crown copyright material, please discuss your concerns with your regular Dstl contact, or with their manager.
If the problem has not been resolved, handled to your satisfaction or you do not have a regular Dstl contact, you can make a formal complaint by writing to: Head of Intellectual Property, Corporate Services, Dstl, Salisbury SP4 0JQ.
If you are still unhappy with the response from Dstl’s Head of Intellectual Property, you can go through MOD’s formal complaints procedure by writing to the Ministerial Correspondence Unit: Ministerial Correspondence Unit, Ministry of Defence, Floor 5 Zone A, Main Building, Whitehall, London SW1A 2WH.
Alternatively, you can contact the Standards Division of the Office of Public Sector Information.
