The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from CPL Products Limited.

The main activities taking place at the Installation are ‘the production of briquettes’ and ‘the regeneration of spent activated carbon’ both of which are listed activities in Part 2 of Schedule 1 to ‘The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016’ under Section 1.2 Part A(1)(f)(i).

Coal Products Limited (trading as CPL Products) is seeking to vary their permit to amend the operational profile of the existing Hydrothermal Carbonisation plant, changing it from a pilot plant (operating 30 days per year) to a fully operational 24-hour unit, and to add a Caustic Wash and Impregnation Unit. They also propose to add one waste code and increase the permitted discharge to surface-water.
