The Environment Agency has received an application to vary (change) an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from British Steel Limited.
The proposed variation does not involve substantial change.

Variation to add a new part A(2) activity: Section 2.1 Part A(2)(c) - Applying protective fused metal coatings with an input of more than 2 tonnes of crude steel per hour. British Steel has been operating a small-scale production line for zinc coated rail for some time; however, the capacity of the original line was previously below the required threshold to require permitting as a Schedule 1 activity. To reduce the emission limits for Large Combustion Plants (LCPs) 341, 342 and 343 due to a change in the fuel blend.
