This direction requires the council to take steps to improve its SEND services, including co-operating with the DfE appointed SEND Commissioner, John Coughlan.

This follows the joint Ofsted and Care Quality Commission (CQC) Local area SEND report, in respect of the SEND revisit which was carried out between 24 May and 27 May 2021.

The inspection report states that sufficient progress has been made in addressing one of the 13 significant weaknesses identified at the initial inspection only, but has failed to make sufficient progress in 12 other areas of significant weakness.
