Direction to Barnet council

Details

This revised direction requires Barnet council to continue to take steps to improve its children’s social care services, including co-operating with the DfE appointed Children’s Services Improvement Advisers, Essex county council, who will lead and direct the children’s services improvement programme.

An independent report by the Commissioner for Children’s Services in Barnet recommended that Barnet receive intensive peer support from a ‘good’ council.

This direction requires the council to allow the commissioner to return to review the effectiveness of the intervention approach by the end of May 2018.

It follows a report by Ofsted that judged the overall effectiveness of the council’s children’s social care services to be ‘inadequate’.

This direction has closed. A new direction issued by DfE on 7 June 2018 replaces it.
