Details
Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs), which have a statutory footing under the Skills and Post 16 Education Act 2022, unite employers, strategic authorities, higher education, further education and Independent Training Providers and wider stakeholders in solving local skills challenges together.
The output is a plan with agreed actions that will drive change and support the development of the skilled workforce our economy needs. LSIPs support the Post-16 Education and Skills White Paper vision for a world-leading skills system and help to deliver the aims of the Industrial Strategy and the Government’s Plan for Change in every area of the country.
Each plan is led by a designated Employer Representative Body (ERB) who has consented to Terms and Conditions working with Strategic Authorities (where they are in place). The development of a new cycle of LSIPs - due for approval by the Secretary of State and publication in Summer 2026 to replace the existing LSIPs - is currently underway. The process is supported by updated Statutory Guidance, which sets out Government’s expectations for the plans, including the new stronger role for Strategic Authorities and the importance of higher education institutions being fully engaged.
Employers, higher education, further education and Independent Training Providers, and any other stakeholders with an interest in skills are encouraged to make contact with the designated ERB that is responsible for the local plan.
