Details
Departmental accounts are a system of planning, controlling and reporting on public spending across government.
The Government Resources and Accounts Act 2000 requires departmentsto prepare accounts for each financial year (1 April to 31 March).
The reports are similar to the annual accounts prepared by private sector businesses. They contain the primary
financial statements recording the full costs of activities, assets and liabilities as well as providing information on how resources have been used to meet objectives.
