Independent research report detailing the requirements for achieving a 2050 net zero carbon transport system. The report reviews the required:

  • technology
  • trialling
  • deployment

The report sets out a series of 7 technological roadmaps to reduce and remove direct emissions from the UK’s domestic transport by 2050. These technological solution roadmaps address:

  • cars and light goods vehicles
  • buses
  • coaches
  • heavy goods vehicles
  • rail
  • domestic shipping
  • domestic aviation

International aviation and shipping are not included within the scope of this study.

The report supported the creation of the Decarbonising transport: a better, greener Britain and was independently produced on behalf of the Department for Transport by Mott Macdonald. It was completed in March 2021.
