The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from SRCL Limited.

The site is currently an A12 Clinical waste transfer station. The application is to vary the permit to allow the storage of hazardous waste above 50 tonnes. This increase in capacity of the transfer station means that it becomes a listed activity: Section 5.6 A(1)(a) Temporary storage of hazardous waste with a total capacity exceeding 50 tonnes pending any of the activities listed in Sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 and paragraph (b) of this Section, except – (i) temporary storage, pending collection, in the site where the waste is generated, or (ii) activities falling within Section 5.2.
