The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Bernard Matthews Foods (Derby) Limited.

Regulated facility type

This a poultry processing facility. They process whole poultry carcasses and portions delivered to the site from abattoirs and process these into two product streams across 16 process lines:

  • Ready to eat
  • Ready to cook

The site has been operation for several years however a processing capacity increase requires the site to hold an Environmental permit under Section 6.8 the treatment of animal and vegetable and food industries: Part A(1)(d)(i) treatment and processing other than exclusively packaging of the following raw materials, whether previously processed or unprocessed, intended for the production of food or feed: only animal raw materials with a finished product production capacity greater than 75 tonnes per day.
