Details of the application
The Environment Agency has received an application to vary (change) an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from City Batteries Limited.
The proposed variation does not involve substantial change.
Application number
EPR/GB3701SW/V002
Regulated facility type
City Batteries LTD is currently permitted to accept both hazardous and non-hazardous waste batteries and non-hazardous metals. The process for lead acid batteries involves the removal of the plastic casing. The casing is then broken in order to separate the components, after which the lead plates are transferred off-site. The plastic casings are shredded for off-site transfer. All other types of batteries are received for bulking up, storage and transfer only. The metals accepted at the site are reduced in size and then transferred offsite in bulk. City Batteries Limited has submitted a variation application to increase the tonnage of hazardous waste stored on the site at any one time, as well as the site’s annual throughput limit. No changes are being made to the other activities, and the daily treatment capacity for the site will remain the same.
