In 2023, the department and Active Travel England commissioned Frontier Economics and SYSTRA to carry out an evidence review covering both the CWIS1 (2021 to 2025) and CWIS2 (2021 to 2025) periods.

The evidence review aimed to understand projected, allocated and delivered investment on walking, wheeling and cycling schemes and programmes.
