Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant Ltd.

Regulated facility type

The facility is an installation permitted under Section 5.1 A(1)(b) activity ‘the Incineration of non-hazardous waste in a waste incineration plant with a capacity exceeding 3 tonnes per hour’ under the Environmental Permitting Regulations. This application is to vary the permit as follows:

  • Increase the annual capacity of the installation from 600,000 tonnes per annum to 728,000 tonnes per annum
  • Amend the Site Layout/Installation Boundary/Operating Techniques to align with the design of the Facility allowing for its design evolution since the environmental permit was originally granted
  • Add two non-hazardous waste types to the permitted waste types
  • Introduce an additional emission point to allow the discharge of excess process effluents to sewer.
