Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Severn Trent Water Limited.

Application number

EPR/KB3603HC/A001

Regulated facility type

Sewage Treatment Works

Application for a physical treatment facility – discharge to head of works.

The site is located at the northern edge of Rugby. The River Avon lies immediately to the north of the site, beyond the river to the north and north east is a school and residential properties. Effluents in the forms of liquids and thin sludges are delivered to the site by road tanker from several sources for treatment within the larger Sewage Treatment Works. These effluents can either be transferred to a holding tank located near the works inlet or discharged directly into the ‘head of the works’ where it is then mixed before discharge into the main works system for aerobic treatment. Once the liquid effluent enters the main works system (also referred to as the main flow) it is classified as urban waste water and is therefore no longer considered waste under the Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC. Sludge is separated from the main works flow and sent offsite for digestion at other works operated by Severn Trent Water. The existing anaerobic digestion related assets at the site are programmed to be decommissioned.
