The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Synergy Asset Services Limited.

The site currently operates a treatment process for the physical treatment including manual sorting and separation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for disposal (no more than 50 tonnes per day) or recovery. The site also operates physical treatment including sorting, separation and manual dismantling of non-hazardous waste for disposal (no more than 50 tonnes per day) or recovery, primarily for the recovery of fire extinguishers.

The application is seeking to add:

Section 5.3 (a) (ii) - haz waste installation – physico - chemical treatment, for the treatment of hazardous canisters.

Section 5.6 - temporary storage of hazardous waste.

Vary the non-hazardous waste treatment activity to enable the recovery of non-hazardous waste at a greater capacity as well as extending the site boundary.

Increase the sites annual throughput to 30,000 tonnes
