We commissioned this social research to develop evidence of:

  • community views and preferences towards electricity transmission network infrastructure
  • measures that could be taken to improve its acceptability, including community benefits

The research was conducted in 3 case studies areas where there are proposals for transmission infrastructure projects classified as essential by the National Grid Electricity System Operator to enable the government’s 2030 offshore wind ambitions. The case study areas were:

  • Inverness / Keith (wards: Keith and Cullen, Speyside Glenlivet, Forres, Nairn and Cawdor, Aird and Loch Ness, and all Inverness)
  • Lincolnshire County
  • East Suffolk, Dover, and Thanet local authorities

The research included a survey and workshops with members of the public across the case study areas.

BMG Research carried out the research for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
