Updated 18 April 2024

The Inter-ministerial Group for Transport met on 5 February 2024 in a hybrid format. The meeting was chaired by Lord Davies of Gower, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, UK government.

The attending ministers were from the:

  • Scottish Government: Fiona Hyslop MSP, Minister for Transport
  • Welsh Government: Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change

Sian Kerr, Director of Transport Planning and Policy, Northern Ireland, attended as an observer.

The chair welcomed all attendees to the meeting.

The discussions focused on matters surrounding freight in the United Kingdom.

Ministers present detailed the approaches their respective governments are taking in relation to freight matters and discussed areas in which further work could be undertaken to share knowledge, challenges, experience and good practice.

The discussions covered topics including:

  • freight decarbonisation
  • heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driver training and roadside facilities
  • provision of freight data

The ministers in attendance welcomed their respective governments continuing to collaborate, where possible while respecting the devolution settlements. Ministers agreed that officials should work together to explore the areas that would most benefit from such intergovernmental work, including rural transport decarbonisation.
