Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received a substantial variation application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016. It is now consulting on the proposed decision.

Applicant name

EPC United Kingdom PLC

Reference number

EPR/BR7607IP/V006

Brief description of activity

In carrying out the improvement conditions after permit review, the operator has established that the installation will not meet the new Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) BAT Associated Emission Levels (AELs) in CWW Tables 1 and 3 after BATc 12, for Chemical Oxygen Demand, Chromium and Nickel for direct emissions to a receiving water body. This variation permits a time-limited delay to 31 December 2023 in meeting these BAT-AELs through the introduction of temporary emission limits (Table S3.2 of this permit), with an improvement condition (IC40) to address reporting progress on development of a ferric sulphate production plant. A brief explanation of the derogation is included in the Annex to the conditions of this permit.
