City Deal: Sunderland and South Tyneside

The City Deal for Sunderland and South Tyneside is part of the second wave of City Deals to get the go-ahead from government.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Sunderland City Deal will allow the city and the North East to build on its strength in advanced manufacturing, particularly around the automotive sector.

By 2027 Sunderland City Council predict the deal will result in:

  • approximately 260,000 square metres of floorspace that can be developed over a 100 hectare advanced manufacturing park
  • 5,200 new jobs, mainly in the manufacturing sector
  • an estimated £295 million private sector investment in advanced manufacturing in the North East
