Charities and fraud

Details

In 2010, the amount of fraud and theft reported to the Charity Commission was £21m. When there are incidents of fraud or theft, the commission’s role is to make sure there has been no mismanagement and charitable funds are protected.

Trustees can protect their charity against fraud by putting in place strong internal financial controls and their funds are only used for legitimate purposes.
