This guide brings together existing guidance and makes new recommendations for laboratories working in the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.

It includes examples of proven good practice and refers to the latest guidance on ergonomic and health and safety issues.

In this way, it allows managers to examine the working practices in their laboratory and adapt the guidance in this publication to their own circumstances.

This publication was previously published by Public Health England, which closed on 30 September 2021.
