An applicant’s choice of storage area at the CCR stage is not binding. It therefore follows that an applicant’s choice of storage area at the CCR stage does not confer priority on that applicant for use of that storage area when CCS is deployed on their power station. Operators will be required to obtain a permit from BEIS and a lease from the Crown Estate in order to store CO2 offshore when CCS is operational.
